White spot lesions are chlky white areas on the enamel that may appear after braces, early enamel weakening, or certain developmental enamel changes. At SmileVerse Dental, we use Icon® Resin Infiltration by DMG, a conservative treatment option designed to improve the appearance of certain white spots without traditional drilling or anesthesia.
Icon Resin infiltration for Smooth Surface is a quick, gentle, micro invasive treatment for discoloration on smooth tooth surfaces, including white spots, early enamel caries, and mild-to-moderate fluorosis. The material works by flowing into the porous enamel where the white spot is located, helping the affected area blend more naturally with the surrounding healthy enamel. For many patients, treatment can be completed in one visit while preserving healthy tooth structure. During your child’s visit, Dr. A will carefully evaluate the white spots and recommend the best option based on the cause, depth, and activity of the lesion.
How Icon Resin Infiltration Works
1. We examine the white spots
Dr. A first checks the enamel to determine whether resin infiltration is an appropriate option. Not every white spot is treated the same way.
2. The tooth is gently cleaned and prepared
The area is cleaned and isolated to keep it dry and comfortable during treatment.
3. The white spot is conditioned
A special gel is applied to prepare the affected enamel so the resin can flow into the white spot area.
4. The tooth is dried and checked
The tooth is dried to help Dr. A evaluate how well the white spot is responding before the resin is placed.
5. The resin is applied
The Icon resin infiltrant is placed over the white spot. It flows into the porous enamel and helps reduce the visible contrast between the white spot and the surrounding tooth.
6. The resin is light-cured and polished
The resin is hardened with a dental light, and the tooth is polished for a smooth, natural-looking finish.
